Thank you for your interest in Onondaga Community College and for visiting our Web site to learn more about the many opportunities that exist for professional employment at Onondaga. Our goal is to attract the best and brightest to serve on our faculty.
With nearly 11,000 students, Onondaga Community College is the second-largest undergraduate college in Central New York and was recently named one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the country by Community College Week. Founded in 1961, Onondaga offers nearly 50 degree programs of study and is a college of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. The 270-acre campus is located on a scenic hilltop just four miles from downtown Syracuse and offers students state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and learning.
There have been many recent improvements and upgrades to the campus including a newly renovated, modern Dining Commons that opened for the campus community in fall 2007. The recent expansion of the Gordon Student Center includes Student Central, a one-stop hub for core enrollment and student services. It also includes the Great Room, a 16,000-square foot addition that offers a breathtaking view of the city and serves as a multipurpose facility for students, faculty and visitors. The College also welcomed its first resident students in fall 2006 with the opening of three ultra-modern residence halls.
The implementation of our comprehensive Facilities Master Plan has included renovation and technology upgrades to nearly every building on campus, including Mawhinney Hall, home to nearly 50 percent of all classroom space on campus. The centerpiece for our technology programs, the Whitney Applied Technology Center, was constructed in 1999 and offers students and faculty with access to state-of-the-art facilities and programs. And, Arts Across Campus, now celebrating its fifth season, is an initiative that enriches the social and cultural experiences of our students and the greater community through a series of thought-provoking lectures, performances, and permanent and rotating art exhibits.
