Planned Giving - The OCC Legacy Society
More and more friends of OCC are making a difference for OCC and its students through planned giving. To recognize those who have chosen to honor the College with a planned gift or through their estate plans, the College invites these individuals to join the newly formed OCC Legacy Society. Participation in the Legacy Circle is offered only to those visionary individuals who help secure the future of education at OCC through planned giving.
OCC Legacy Society benefits include:
- Invitation to President's annual Legacy Society event
- Distinguished recognition in the OCC Foundation annual report
- Special Legacy Society gift
- Exclusive invitation to special College events
- Special permanent recognition in the OCC President's Suite.
Note: Your notification to the OCC Foundation of your inclusion of OCC in your estate plan through planned giving, automatically provides for membership in the OCC Legacy Society, regardless of gift type and size.
Bequests
A bequest is a gift of any form made through your will. To make such a gift in support of OCC, it is recommended that the following language be utilized as part of your will:
" I give, devise and bequeath to the Onondaga Community College Foundation, Inc., Syracuse, NY 13215, (percentage of, residue, sum, or description of property), the principal and income of which shall be used for (you may describe a specific purpose for the use of your bequest)."
Bequests may be made as:
- Specific Bequest. Stipulates an amount, a percentage, or particular securities or other assets.
- Residuary Bequest. States that all or a portion of your estate be given after specific amounts are distributed to other beneficiaries.
- Contingent Bequest. Directs that your assets be distributed if your primary heirs do not survive you.
For additional information on wills and bequests, as well as information on Charitable Gift Annuities, Retained Life Estate Gifts and the use of Life Insurance as a charitable gift, please click here to visit the SUNY Research Foundation.
Remember that notifying OCC of your bequest intention, even without specifying the amount, qualifies you for membership in the OCC Legacy Society.
Memorial and Honorary Gifts
Most recently, donors to the OCC Foundation have utilized their giving to recognize a relative, colleague, or classmate. Your generosity can acknowledge someone close to you, and create a lasting tribute to the person honored or memorialized.
All honorary gifts are acknowledged to the honoree and in the case of memorial gifts, those left behind are notified of a memorial gift having been made. Like all gifts to the OCC Foundation, these special gifts make it possible for students to pursue their academic dreams, while providing a warm and loving way to remember those special to us.
All honorary and memorial gifts also receive special mention in the annual report of the OCC Foundation.
Endowed giving is an especially effective way to make an honorary or memorial donation, in that the gift will live on in perpetuity, with the income from the gift devoted to helping secure OCC's future.
Please contact us to help you identify honorary or memorial gift opportunities at any level.
