How to Apply

Applying for financial aid at Onondaga is easy.  Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1

File your FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. To electronically sign your FAFSA online, you must have a Personal Identification Number (PIN). You can apply for a PIN online at the same time you file your FAFSA online.  Onondaga Community College’s FAFSA College Code number is 002875.

Step 2

If you are a New York State resident, you will be linked from the online FAFSA to the New York TAP application. You will be prompted to get a HESCPIN (Personal Identification Number) to electronically sign your TAP application.  You can also access the TAP application online at www.tapweb.org. Onondaga Community College’s TAP Code number is 2185.

Step 3

If you have not yet been admitted to Onondaga, complete the Onondaga admissions application process.  A free application to Onondaga is available at www.sunyocc.edu

Step 4

If you provided an email address on your FAFSA, your SAR will be sent electronically within five days.  Without an email address, a paper SAR will be mailed to you.  Review the results for accuracy and make any corrections to www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Step 5

Your application will be reviewed by Financial Aid.  If necessary, you may be required to submit additional documents.  Once the review is complete, you will receive a Financial Aid Award Letter indicating your student financial aid awards.

Step 6

If it has been more than four weeks since receiving your SAR and have not heard from Financial Aid, please contact us so we can assist you in resolving any outstanding issues.

Application Timelines

Apply Early!  You can begin filing the FAFSA as early as January 1 each year and by filing early you will be able to take advantage of these benefits:

  • Bookstore line of credit to help purchase your books and supplies
  • Financial aid advance if you need a little help to get through the first few weeks of classes
  • Planning for academic year expenses by knowing how much student aid can help

All applications will be reviewed beginning March 1 of each year. Applications filed after March 1 will continue to be reviewed and processed according to the date received.

Note: Current students must re-apply each year for federal, state, and institutional aid programs.
