Students With Disabilities
Steps
The Disability Services Office (DSO) works to ensure that students with disabilities have full access to the College. Services and resources are made available to each student based on his or her specific needs as determined appropriate by the DSO professional staff.
The DSO serves as the liaison with such agencies as Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID), and the Commission for the Visually Handicapped and Blind. The office assists agency counselors in monitoring clients’ progress, as well as assuring that necessary support services are available. If you are planning to use outside agency assistance we urge you to contact the agency well before your first semester to verify eligibility and determine services.
Consultative and educational services are offered to students who present a “legally documented” learning disability. You are required to provide documentation or psychoeducational testing reports prior to an intake interview to verify your need for services.
- Submit Your Proof of Immunizations to Health Services
New York State Public Health Laws require all students attending college to provide proof of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella, and to be informed of the risks of meningococcal meningitis and given the option of being immunized.- If you were born prior to 1957, you do not need to provide proof of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella.
- If you have medical contraindications to immunization or have genuine and sincere religious beliefs contrary to immunization, you will need to contact Health Services for a waiver.
- Students under the age of 18 who choose to decline meningitis vaccination, must have the meningitis statement signed by their parent or legal guardian.
- Take Your Placement Tests (if you haven't already)
If you wish to request accommodations for pre-admission/placement tests you must first complete an interview with the DSO prior to taking the tests. At the time of the interview, the DSO professional will determine the appropriate accommodations.
Onondaga uses the ACCUPLACER computerized placement testing program which includes Sentence Skills, Reading Comprehension and Mathematics. Test results help you and your advisor select appropriate courses at Onondaga. Tests are administered on a walk-in basis during posted hours. Tests are not timed, and it is estimated that you will need approximately 2 hours to complete the testing sequence. Most students will receive test results immediately after testing. Students completing LOEP (non-native speakers of English) testing will be mailed test results. See placement testing schedule. Want to know what to expect?
