Home-Schooled Students

For years, Onondaga Community College has encouraged home-schooled students to apply for admission.  The unique contributions of home-schooled students greatly enrich the diversity of our campus. The following information is provided to assist you in the application process.

How to Apply

If you have submitted the necessary documentation demonstrating compliance with the minimum requirements of the home instruction regulations and have been granted a letter of substantial equivalency, you will be considered for admission to Onondaga in the same manner as a high school graduate.

Without the letter of substantial equivalency or a GED, you can still be considered for admission to Onondaga under the Ability to Benefit Provision, providing you demonstrate satisfactory scores on pre-admission testing.

Financial Aid

If you have a GED (the equivalent of a high school diploma), have passed the Ability to Benefit test, or have a letter of substantial equivalency, you may be eligible for financial aid.  Your personal eligibility will be determined when you complete the FAFSA.

Placement Tests

Once your application is processed, you will be contacted regarding placement testing.  This testing is mandatory for all Onondaga applicants.  At Onondaga, we use Accuplacer to measure your skills in Reading, English, and Mathematics.

If you are applying under the Ability to Benefit Provision, you must prove that you can benefit from a postsecondary program of study by meeting minimum scores established by the US Department of Education on the Accuplacer assessment.
