Responsibility for Maintenance: Registration and Records Office
Date of most recent changes: January 25, 2010
I. Policy Statement
A matriculated student is one who has been accepted by the Onondaga Community College Admission Office and is enrolled in a degree or certificate program. A non-matriculated student is enrolled in College classes but has not been admitted formally to a degree/certificate program, or has lost matriculated status because of unsatisfactory academic performance or as otherwise set forth in this policy.
A matriculated student in good academic standing who discontinues enrollment for two or more consecutive terms (summer and winter sessions excluded) retains his/her matriculated status but must contact Student Central in order to reenroll. Notwithstanding the preceding sentence, a student matriculated in a program with limited enrollment capacity, will be placed on inactive status in the program if enrollment is discontinued for reasons other than graduation (he or she may retain matriculated status in programs not subject to limited enrollment).
Matriculated students who have discontinued enrollment for a period of six years or longer will be placed in non-matriculated status.
Matriculated students may request academic program changes through the procedure set forth in this policy.
II. Reason for Policy
This policy is designed to facilitate efficient use of the College’s academic resources by establishing standards for matriculation and academic program change.
III. Applicability of the Policy
All full- and part-time students at the College, as well as College employees responsible for making determinations affecting students’ matriculated status, should be familiar with this policy.

A matriculated student may request an academic program change through Student Central. The request is processed only after it has been reviewed by an Advisor, Counselor or by the Department Chairperson or the Curriculum Proctor.
Matriculated students requesting a second change (into a 3rd program at Onondaga Community College), are required to meet with an advisor or counselor to assess education and career goals in relation to the requested program change.
Students who have lost matriculated status because of unsatisfactory academic performance must follow specific requirements for reinstatement. See Policy A5 Academic Standing.
In unusual or extenuating circumstances the Scholastic Standards Committee will consider exceptions to the requirements of this policy. Petitions to waive the academic rules are available at Student Central.
