Sunday, January 14th, 2018

8 a.m. - 3 p.m. - Residence Life Move In

  • Additional Information Provided by Residence Life Office

11 a.m. -4 p.m. - Shopping Shuttle - Res Hall B and Shapero Hall

  • LazerLine shuttle to Destiny (will run a continuous loop) 

6 p.m. - Residence Hall Floor Meetings

  • Required for all NEW residents. See your RA for specific location. 

7 -10 p.m. - Winter Welcome Fest - SRC Arena

  • Meet other students and have some fun with the mechanical snowboard, DIY crafts, photo booth and free hot cocoa! 

Week 1

Monday, January 15th, 2018

9 a.m. - 5 p.m. - Shopping Shuttles, Res Hall B & Shapero Hall

Pickup and drop offs at Residence Hall B and Shapero Hall

  • 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. - Target
  • 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. - Destiny USA

4 - 6 p.m. - Ice Skating, Clinton Square

  • Located in the heart of downtown Syracuse, the Clinton Square Ice rink is one of the city's most popular destinations. The LazerLine will leave at 3:30pm from the SRC Arena and will pick up at Clinton Square at 6pm.

5 -7 p.m. - MLK Selfie Station, Gordon Hallway

  • Join the History Club, listen to the “I Have a Dream” speech and take a historical "selfie" on the national mall during the famous Martin Luther King Jr. speech.

8 - 9 p.m. - Speed Friending, Res Halls

  • Meet other students in your residence hall! Snacks provided. 

Tuesday, January 16th, 2018

7:30 - 9:30 a.m. -  Welcome Back Breakfast, Gordon & Mawhinney

  • Free breakfast for students to start the semester right!

9 a.m. - 6 p.m. -  Taking Care of Business, Student Central

  • Get your Lazercard and parking pass
  • Print a copy of your schedule
  • Follow up on financial aid
  • Get help paying your bill 

9 a.m. - 3 p.m. - Mystery History Mosaic, Gordon Great Room

  • Who will the portrait be? Stop by, paint a tile, glue it to the board, and wave at the camera - because this community mosaic-making will be transformed into a 90-second high-speed video.  

10 a.m. - 12 p.m. - Meet Blaze!, Gordon Hallway

  •  Meet blaze, take some selfies with him and get entered to win a $100 bookstore gift card.

11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. - #FreeIfYouCanFindMeOCC Ice Cream Event, Gordon Great Room

  • Come for free Ice Cream in the Gordon Great Room!

10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. - Academic Open house, Gordon Great Room *This Event is Required*

  • Warm up with hot cocoa, learn about academic programs offered at OCC and meet faculty members. 

1 - 4 p.m. - Lazers Doing Good, Gordon Great Room

  • Take a break to put a smile on someone’s face by supporting Syracuse area organizations. Stop by, meet new people, help make blankets and greeting cards for our neighbors in the community, and learn about how you can get involved with local not-for-profit agencies.

4 - 5:30 p.m. - Part I: Showing of "I am Not Your Negro", Storer Auditorium

  • I Am Not Your Negro is a 2016 documentary film directed by Raoul Peck, based on James Baldwin's unfinished manuscript, Remember This House. Narrated by actor Samuel L. Jackson, the film explores the history of racism in the United States through Baldwin's reminiscences of civil rights leaders Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King, Jr, as well as his personal observations of American history. It was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 89th Academy Awards.

8 - 9 p.m. - Facts & Hacks, Res Halls

  • Learn about everything you need to know to live on campus including laundry, cooking, and more! Students will have the opportunity to win laundry detergent.

Thursday, January 18th, 2018

  • Free breakfast for OCC @ Liverpool students.

11 a.m. - 2 p.m. - Get Involved Fair, Gordon Hallway

  • Find out how you can get involved on campus by talking with clubs, offices, and more! Complete the Bingo Board to enter for a chance to win a Visa gift card!

4 – 5:30 p.m. - Part II: Panel Discussion of  the Movie  “I am NotYour Negro”, Gordon 210

  • In 1979, James Baldwin wrote a letter to his literary agent describing his next project, "Remember This House." The book was to be a revolutionary, personal account of the lives and assassinations of three of his close friends: Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr. At the time of Baldwin's death in 1987, he left behind only 30 completed pages of this manuscript.

7 - 8 p.m. - Third Thursday: Karaoke!, Lazer Lounge

  • Every third Thursday of the month there will be a fun activity in the LazerLounge. The first one is Karaoke! Come show us your singing skills!

9 - 11 a.m. - Office of Accessibility Resources Open House , SRC Arena

  • The Office of Accessibility Resources (OAR) invites you to meet our staff, register with us, and learn about the services OAR offers.  We provide accommodations for students with many different kinds of disabilities and will confidentially discuss any concerns relating to potential or documented disabilities.  Stop by for information, giveaways and to get hands on with some of our assistive devices.  

11 a.m. - 1 p.m. - Fiesta with the Prez, Gordon Cafeteria

  • Join President Crabill in celebrating the first week of classes with Hispanic music and food! Support the Spanish Club's Pulsera Project and find OCC's President to get entered to win exciting prizes.

  • Who is Inquoris “Inky” Johnson? He could be described as the survivor of an underprivileged past. He could be described as a refugee of poverty and violence. He could be described as a success story stained by tragedy. But if you look deeper, you’ll discover something else.

11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. - Geology Club Bingo, Ferrante 368

  • A Club that brings together students of Earth Sciences.  We run 1-day caving, hiking, museum, and fossil collecting trips and weekend to week-long trips to see coastal features and geologic wonders.  We live on the only habitable planet in our solar system, we might as well explore and celebrate it!  All students are invited to come and see the splendor and fun of the Geo-sciences.

10 am - 2 p.m. - Mental Health Fair, Gordon Hallway

  • Learn about mental health resources in the community.

  • Learn about resources in the community and receive contraception.

  • Campus Safety Officers and the Onondaga community (students, faculty and staff) will come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss issues, build relationships, drink coffee and enjoy refreshments.
