  • Assessing STEM State Policy: A Look at the Middle-Skill STEM State Policy Framework

    Published on April 7, 2016

OCC participated in the ATD Leader College webinar entitled: “Assessing STEM State Policy: A Look at the Middle-Skill STEM State Policy Framework." This webinar provided an opportunity for participants to learn about the Middle-Skill STEM State Framework.

In the fall of 2013, Achieving the Dream (ATD) and Jobs for the Future (JFF) began examining how state policy can enable more community college students to earn credentials that provide access to robust and well-paying career opportunities in STEM. In particular, ATD and JFF focused on the role community colleges can play in building supportive pathways for students who might otherwise struggle to complete STEM programs of study.

With generous support from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, and through intensive collaboration with colleges and state policymakers, these organizations have created this Middle-Skill STEM State Policy Framework to help states advance the creation of middle-skill STEM pathways and invite students to enter and complete these pathways.

  • Achieving the Dream Technology Solutions Webinar – The Missing Link

    Published on Jan 21, 2016

The Missing Link: Increasing institutional understanding, retention rates, and academic outcomes of African American male students by enhanced non-cognitive pre-assessment.

As part of our ongoing commitment to sharing knowledge and best practices with Achieving the Dream Network Colleges, ATD invites you to view the Technology Solutions webinar focused on improving the academic outcomes of African American male students.

Research shows that African American male students lag behind their peers in college enrollment, retention, and graduation rates. The research also shows that the growing number of initiatives implemented to enhance the success of male students of color are not producing the desired results.

Co-presented by Dr. Lee Hampton, Director of Multicultural Affairs at ATD Leader College, Jackson College, and Dennis Sorensen, Subject Matter Expert at Qualtrics, the webinar introduces an assessment tool that helps institutions understand the potential strengths and challenges African American male students face upon enrollment at the institution, allowing them to design and implement interventions that enhance their academic success.
