When is the next Phlebotomy course?

You can find the next Phlebotomy course start date by going to our website and clicking on Phlebotomist.  The course is 7 weeks in duration on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm.  The course also includes a clinical experience that will be scheduled after the course.

How do I register for the course?

Registration is in person on a first come-first serve basis.  The registration date and time will be listed on our website at and takes place approximately one month prior to the course start date.  It is held at Student Central in the Gordon Student Center.  You must pay full tuition and submit proof of High School completion or equivalency at the time of registration. 

Do I have to submit proof of High School completion or equivalency again if OCC already has it on file?

No.  If Student Central already has this on file you do not need to submit it again.  You should check with Student Central at 315-498-2000 in advance to verify it’s on file to avoid a registration problem.

What is the tuition & do I need to pay when I register for the course?

The tuition is $1,299. You must pay full tuition at the time of registration.  OCC accepts cash, checks payable to OCC, money orders, or credit card payments.  You will not be allowed to register if you have a past due balance or block on your account at OCC.

Can I register for this course if I have a past due balance or a block on my OCC account?

No.  You will not be allowed to register if you have a past due balance or block on your account at OCC.

Are there any additional fees?

There are no additional fees.  All textbooks, scrubs, and supplies are included in your tuition. 

Do I need to submit immunizations or any other health information?

You are required to submit health compliance paperwork to OCC before you go to your clinical.  It is typically due by the middle of the class.  OCC’s Health Compliance Officer will give you a health packet and explain the process on the first night of class.

When and where can I complete my clinical experience?

OCC maintains agreements with a select list of approved clinical sites in Onondaga, Oswego, and Cortland counties.  Class clinical placements are assigned by the Placement Coordinator at OCC.

Can I just register for the clinical experience?

No.  You must register for and take the course to be assigned to a clinical experience.

 

What type of certification will I be eligible for upon completion of the course?

Upon successful completion of the course and clinical experience you will receive a completion certificate from OCC.  You will also be eligible to sit for the Technician Certification Exam in Phlebotomy through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists

When do I take the certification exam?

Students must register themselves for the exam through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists upon completion of the course and clinical experience.   OCC will assist you in completing the test application and will complete the training and clinical verification section of the application.
