What You Will Learn:
You will learn to construct, test, analyze, trouble-shoot and repair systems and sub-systems reflective of modern technology using real-world engineering tools and the technologies of today. You will learn about fundamental concepts such as electronics, industrial control, instrumentation, communications, power distribution and electronic hardware while taking your problem-solving skills to the next level. (Please note that this degree program recommends preparation of two years in high school math with good algebra skills. For students requiring assistance with math, English and study skills, the Foundations of Technology program is recommended for the student's first semester to provide the proper academic preparation and support necessary for success in this degree program).

What It Is Like:
You will work on a team with other students in lab and in informal lecture mode with plenty of student-teacher interaction. While working in the ultra-modern Whitney Applied Technology Center, you will have access to the latest equipment and classroom facilities, including state-of-the-art labs where you will receive individualized, hands-on training. Your goal is to gain a solid, working understanding of electrical and electronic equipment and circuits.

Where It Can Take You:
Upon successful completion of this program, students are well prepared for immediate employment as electronics technicians and engineering assistants in research, design and manufacturing, as well as positions in sales and service. Many students choose to continue their education by transferring credits to a four-year school to earn a bachelor's degree in engineering. Formal transfer arrangements are in place with the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and the SUNY Institute of Technology (SUNY-IT), which allow qualified students to transfer to either of these institutions' bachelor of engineering technology (BET) programs with junior-level status.

It is important that students who plan to transfer after completing their studies at Onondaga consult from the beginning of their academic program with an OCC advisor and a contact at the transfer college to make sure both OCC's degree requirements and transfer requirements are being meet.
