Mathematics Courses

The Mathematics Department offers several on-line courses including MAT 088-Beginning Algebra/Math Skills and Applications, MAT 114-Intermediate Algebra, MAT 113-Contemporary Mathematics, MAT 115-Modeling for Decision Making, MAT 116 Decision Making with Calculus, MAT 143 -Pre-calculus with Trigonometry, MAT 151 Statistics I, MAT 161 Calculus I, and MAT 162-Calculus II.

The Mathematics Department at Onondaga Community College began offering mathematics courses for prospective elementary teachers in spring 2001.  A two-semester sequence was designed for the B-2,1-6, 5-8, and B-6 teacher.  Students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution in Early Childhood or Middle Childhood Education are advised to take MAT 121 and MAT 122.  The goal of the sequence is to have the students develop a comprehensive understanding of the mathematical curriculum as recommended by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards.  A hands-on problem solving, technology based approach is emphasized throughout both courses.  These courses fulfill the math requirement for the General Studies, Humanities, and Human Services degrees.  A specific placement exam for these courses is required and administered through the Math Diagnostics Center.
