If so, then consider pursuing the one-year certificate program in Microcomputer Troubleshooting and Maintenance. Microcomputers and networks are an indispensable part of the commercial and industrial environment. As a result, the demand for highly skilled technicians with a microcomputer repair and maintenance background is growing at an accelerated pace. This one-year certificate program provides a solid foundation for career opportunities in electronics and computer-related fields. Note: The pre-requisite to enroll in this program is one year of high school math (beginning algebra) or if you lack the recommended math background, you may develop your math skills by taking specially designed non-credit coursework in the area.

What You Will Learn:

You will learn the basic skills needed to work in many specialty fields associated with computers, electronics and networking. The courses in this program assist with preparation for such professional certificates as A+, CCNA and Network+.

What It Is Like:

In this certificate program, you will work closely with your instructors to learn conceptual skills from three areas: digital electronics, computer information systems and computer science. The curriculum draws upon hardware concepts from electronics, software concepts from computer science, and system concepts from computer information systems.

Where It Can Take You:

The Microcomputer Troubleshooting and Maintenance one-year certificate is designed to prepare you to work as a technical repair and maintenance expert in the area of microcomputer technology and local area networking. Employment possibilities exist in many areas such as: computer maintenance and support; electronics assembly and repair; network installation and support in commercial offices; and in industries where computers are used as "tools of the trade". If you choose to pursue an associate degree (A.A.S.) in Computer Engineering Technology, it is recommended that you consult with your advisor to learn how your credits may be successfully applied to the A.A.S. degree.
