Facilities + Technology

Onondaga Community College’s Photography department offers exceptional facilities for film-based black and white and color photography, studio lighting and the latest digital technology for capture, creation, editing and printing, including:

Analog Facilities and Equipment

  • Four separate darkrooms for film-based black and white and color photography (including 24 enlargers for 35 mm and medium format film and 7 enlargers which accept film sizes up to 4 x 5”).
  • Automated film processing for E-6 and C-41 films.
  • Colex Color print processor accepting paper as large as 32” wide for mural prints.
  • Large black and white film developing area.
  • 4 x 5” large format cameras (Toyo) for studio or field work.
  • Medium format cameras (Hasselblad and Mamiya) for studio or field work.
  • Assorted manual control 35 mm cameras (Nikon and Pentax), lenses and tripods.

Digital Facilities and Equipment

  • Digital capture for medium format and large format cameras.
  • Macintosh G4 and G5 computers with latest image-editing software.
  • Four high-resolution flatbed and transparency scanners (Imacom, Epson and Agfa).
  • Lasergraphics film recorder (can image to 35mm, 120 and 4 x 5” film from digital files).
  • Large format ink jet printers capable of printing up to 42” wide imagery.
  • 35 mm high resolution digital cameras (Nikon and Fuji) for studio or field work.
  • Digital video camera (Sony).

Lighting Studio 

  • Large dedicated studio (can be sectioned into four separate studios) with a wide range of strobe sets (2 Novotron and 1 Speedotron), tungsten sets other lighting equipment.

Mounting Area

  • Large photo finishing area for dry mounting, spotting and window matting.
