West Genesee grad sets Lazer career rebounding mark.

SYRACUSE, NY. – January 23, 2008 – Onondaga Community College men’s basketball player Shane Williams (Camillus West Genesee) received dual honors for his play last week. The second year forward was named Player of the Week by the Mid-State Athletic Conference and Male Athlete of the Week by Region III of the National Junior College Athletic Association, both for the week ending January 20, 2008. These are the second and third major in-season awards for Williams, as he was named NJCAA Division III National Co-Player of the Week for the week which ended December 9, 2007.

Williams received the honors on the strength of his play in leading Onondaga to 2 Mid-State Conference victories last week. Last Thursday, he scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in the Lazers’ 74-61 win at Corning Community College. Then on Saturday, Williams scored 20 points, grabbed 18 rebounds, and handed out 5 assists in Onondaga’s 100-95 win over Broome Community College. With the 14 rebounds that Williams grabbed in a non-conference game against North Country Community College on Monday, he now has a career total of 504 rebounds, eclipsing Joe Olsen’s (Central Square P.V. Moore / Daemen College) total of 486 and making him Onondaga’s all-time rebounding leader. He is currently being recruited by multiple NCAA and NAIA Division I and II institutions.

Onondaga now has an overall record of 13-5 and a Mid-State Conference mark of 3-1. The Lazers are tied with Finger Lakes Community College for the lead in the conference.
