Onondaga Community College men’s basketball player Shane Williams accepts scholarship to Lindenwood University

Williams becomes 10th Lazer in the past 6 years to play scholarship basketball

SYRACUSE, NY. – April 23, 2008 – Onondaga Community College men’s basketball player Shane Williams (Camillus West Genesee) has accepted a scholarship offer to continue his education and basketball career at Lindenwood University. Lindenwood is a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics school located in St. Charles, Missouri. The Lions are members of the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Last season, Lindenwood posted an overall record of 14-17, and reached the NAIA national tournament as recently as 2005-06, where they advanced to the tournament’s Final Four.

Williams becomes the 10th Onondaga player in the past 6 seasons to be offered an opportunity to play at a scholarship-level school. He led the Lazers in both scoring and rebounding this season, as he averaged 16.0 points and 11.2 rebounds per contest. In the process, he set both single season and career rebounding records for Onondaga, as he collected 336 rebounds on the season, bringing his career total to 638. He also established a new career record for blocked shots with 88. Williams was named to the Mid-State Athletic Conference All-Conference Team, was named 2nd Team National Junior College Athletic Association Region III All-Region, and was named to the Basketball Coaches Association of New York All-New York State Junior College 2nd Team. He was also the NJCAA Division III national Co-Player of the Week for the week ending December 9, the Mid-State Athletic Conference Player of the Week and the Region III Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 20, and the Most Valuable Player of the Onondaga Community College Classic. Williams, a business administration major, has also excelled in the classroom, as he has earned a 3.588 grade point average and received the BCANY Scholar Athlete Award.

Onondaga completed the 2007-08 season with a 22-9 overall record. The Lazers were the Mid-State Athletic Conference regular season co-champions, and reached the Mid-State Championship Game and the Region III Quarter-finals. Onondaga has qualified for post-season play in each of the past 8 season.
