Onondaga Community College Announces 2008-09 Men’s Basketball Roster

Lazers to open season against Clinton CC this Sunday.

SYRACUSE, NY. – October 30, 2008 – Onondaga Community College has announced its 2008-2009 Men’s Basketball roster. The Lazers will sport a new look this season, as only 5 players, accounting for only 9% of the scoring and 13% of the minutes played, return from last year’s 22-9 squad, which shared the Mid-State Athletic Conference regular season championship and advanced to the conference championship game.

Tri-captains Jordan Barzee (6’2” guard, Home Schooled, 1.4 points per game), Brandon Haughton (6’2” forward, Cicero-North Syracuse, 1.8 ppg), and Matt Potter (6’6” forward, New Berlin Unadilla Valley, 2.0 ppg) will lead Onondaga this season. Jason Kondra (5’9” guard, East Syracuse-Minoa, 4.3 ppg) also returns, as does Dan Shelly (6’2” forward, Camillus West Genesee, 1.1 ppg). Eldar Kadic (6’1” guard, Liverpool), a redshirt a year ago, will see his first collegiate action this season as well. Josh Kennedy (5’11” guard, Chittenango, 0.7 ppg in 2006-07), also a redshirt last year, was expected to contend for a starting guard spot, but suffered a knee injury in the off-season which will likely force him to miss the entire campaign.

12 newcomers will complete this year’s roster. They include freshmen Eric Ball (6’2” forward, Syracuse Bishop Grimes), Justin Balin (6’3” forward, Norwich, Zach Chawgo (6’2” guard, LaFayette), Ryan Ellis (5’9” guard, Seneca Falls Mynderse Academy), Dave Foltz (5’8” guard, Auburn), Nate Foote (5’8” guard, Norwich), Dan Mabbett (6’4” center, Mohawk Jarvis), Josh Michlovitch (5’10” guard, Liverpool), Raffi Perry (6’ guard, New Berlin Unadilla Valley), Brad Romancik (6’1” guard, LaFayette), and Mike Sapp (5’11” guard, Geneva). Also, Tyler Eustace (6’4” forward, Liverpool), a second year student, is in his first year as a member of the Onondaga team.

Dave Pasiak (Waterville) returns for his 9th year as Onondaga’s head coach. In his first 8 seasons, he has directed the Lazers to a 153-90 record, including a 76-34 mark in Mid-State Athletic Conference play. Last year, Pasiak became Onondaga’s all-time leader in coaching victories, surpassing Hank Fengler, who led the Lazers to 139 wins from 1977-1983 and 1987-1991. Onondaga is one of only three schools to have qualified for the NJCAA Region III tournament in each of the past seven seasons. Johnny Davis (Syracuse), Scott Blair (Syracuse), and John Burns (Oswego) return as assistant coaches. Davis is entering his 7th season with the Lazers, while Blair is beginning his 3rd year and Burns enters his 2nd.

Onondaga will open its season this Sunday, November 2, at home against Clinton Community College. Tip-off is set for 4:00 pm.
