Onondaga CC’s Jason Kondra and Matt Potter among national statistical leaders

Lazers set to face #2 team in the nation on Saturday

SYRACUSE, NY. – November 19, 2008 – Onondaga Community College men’s basketball players Jason Kondra (East Syracuse-Minoa) and Matt Potter (New Berlin Unadilla Valley) are among the nation’s statistical leaders, according to the latest official National Junior College Athletic Association Division III men’s basketball statistics. Kondra, a second year point guard, ranks 9th nationally in scoring, averaging 23.0 points per game through the Lazers’ first 5 games. He is also ranked 10th in assists, handing out an average of 6.6 per game. Kondra has hit the 30 point mark twice this season, against Mercyhurst North East and SUNY Delhi. In Onondaga’s most recent game, a 112-84 win over Jamestown Community College-Cattaraugus, he recorded a double-double with 21 points and 11 assists. Potter is ranked among the leaders in blocked shots, averaging 2.6 blocks per game, which ties him for 2nd spot. He has blocked 4 shots in a game twice, against Clinton Community College and Mohawk Valley Community College.

Onondaga also ranks among the national leaders in several team offensive categories. The Lazers are averaging 91.6 points per game through the first 5 contests, making them the 7th highest scoring team in the country. Onondaga also ranks 9th in free throw percentage, shooting 69.1% from the line. The Lazers are 10th in three-point percentage, having connected on 36.1% of their attempts from behind the arc.

Onondaga has an overall record of 3-2 on the season, including 2 wins over Division II opponents. The Lazers return to action on Saturday afternoon as they take on Hudson Valley Community College, the #2 ranked team in the country according to the latest NJCAA Division III national poll. The game will begin at 4:00 pm, and will be played at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy. The Lazers return home next Tuesday, November 25, for a 6:00 pm contest against Schenectady County Community College, a game that was originally scheduled to be played in Schenectady.
