Lazers set to face demanding schedule

SYRACUSE, NY. – October 27, 2009 – Onondaga Community College has announced its 2009-2010 Men’s Basketball roster. The Lazers return 8 players, 7 of them on the perimeter, from last year’s 14-16 squad which reached the Mid-State Athletic Conference semi-finals and the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 3 quarter-finals. Onondaga will be looking to extend its strings of 9 consecutive post-season berths and 8 consecutive appearances in the regional tournament. Those marks are the longest active streaks of any Mid-State Conference school.

Co-captain point guards Nate Foote (5’8”, Norwich) and Josh Kennedy (5’10”, Chittenango) will head an experienced group of guards. Foote played in 27 games in 2008-09, averaging 1.4 points and 1.6 assists per game, while Kennedy missed the entire 2008-09 campaign while recovering from a knee injury. He last played for the Lazers on their 2006-07 Mid-State Conference championship team. Former All-State high school players Eric Ball (6’3” forward, Syracuse Bishop Grimes, 9.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg) and Brad Romancik (6’1” guard, LaFayette, 7.1 ppg, 3.8 rpg) are the top scorers and rebounders among Onondaga’s returnees. Also back for the Lazers are Dave Foltz (5’9” guard, Auburn, 5.6 ppg, 2.7 apg), Zach Chawgo (6’2” guard, LaFayette, 6.1 ppg, 3.5 rg), and Dan Mabbett (6’3” forward, Mohawk Jarvis, 1.4 ppg, 1.9 rpg). Another former high school All-State selection, Raffi Perry (5’11” guard, Unadilla Valley), will see his first collegiate action this season after redshirting a year ago.

11 newcomers will complete this year’s roster, highlighted by a pair of transfers, Sairron Miller (6’2” swingman, Syracuse Bishop Ludden) and Peter Lokai (6’5” forward, Cazenovia). Miller averaged 13.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game playing for Clinton Community College in 2007-08, while Lokai averaged 1.4 points and 1.4 rebounds at Elmira College, also in 2007-08. Freshmen include Kevin Corbin (6’5” guard, Cicero-North Syracuse), Scott Cotter (6’3” forward, Marcellus), Trevor Jackson (6’6” forward, Bay Shore), Jake Johnson (6’5” forward, Tully), Andrew Lucio (6’1” guard, Solvay), Mike Major (6’6” forward, Chittenango), Zach Ryan (6’8” center, Liverpool), Christian Smith (5’11” guard, Syracuse Henninger), and Heath Stone (6’4” forward, Chittenango).

Dave Pasiak (Waterville) returns for his 10th year as Onondaga’s head coach. In his first 9 seasons, he has directed the Lazers to a 167-106 record, including an 83-39 mark in Mid-State Athletic Conference play. His 167 wins make him Onondaga’s all-time leader in coaching victories. Johnny Davis (Syracuse), Pat Mannion (Marcellus), Jordan Barzee (Cicero), and John Burns (Oswego) will serve as assistant coaches. Davis is entering his 8th season with the Lazers, while Mannion is beginning his 2nd year, Barzee his 1st, and Burns his 3rd.
