Onondaga Community College tops Corning CC to keep Mid-State playoff hopes alive

Balanced Lazer attack produces highest offensive output in last 21 games

SYRACUSE, NY. The Onondaga Community College menth place tie with Corning in the conference standings. Onondaga and Corning trail 4th place Cayuga Community College by 1 game and 3rd place Finger Lakes Community College by 1-1/2 games with 3 games remaining in the regular season. The top four teams in the final regular season standings will compete for the conference championship on February 20 and 21 at Tompkins Cortland Community College. Tompkins Cortland has clinched the top seed in the tournament.

Onondaga and Corning battled on near even terms over the first 10 minutes, before the Lazers were able to open some daylight. Leading 38-32 with 1:42 left in the first half, Onondaga closed with a 10-1 run to take a 48-33 lead to intermission. The Lazers were able to maintain a comfortable lead throughout much of the second half, before Corning was able to close the margin to 80-75 with 4:03 to go. Onondaga responded with a 12-5 run to close the game and come away with the victory. Onondagath game of the season on November 15. Onondaga connected on 36 of 70 shots (51.4%) from the floor, compared to 30 of 71 (42.3%) for Corning. The Lazers controlled the game on the interior, as they owned a 46-35 rebounding advantage and outscored Corning 62-24 in the paint.

The Lazers placed six different players in double figures on the way to yesterday's win. Nate Foote (Norwich) led the Onondaga attack with 19 points, while Heath Stone (Chittenango) added 16 points and 9 rebounds. Dan Mabbett (Mohawk Jarvis) added 12 points and Jacob Johnson (Tully) recorded a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Raphael Perry (Unadilla Valley) and Dave Foltz (Auburn) rounded out the double figure scorers, adding 10 points each. Andrew Lucio (Solvay) handed out a team bet 6 assists.

Onondaga will go back on the road on Wednesday, traveling to Broome Community College for an 8:00 pm tip-off. The Lazers return home next Saturday afternoon, as they host Jefferson Community College at 3:00 pm.
