SYRACUSE, NY. – November 30, 2010 – The Onondaga Community College men’s basketball team went on the road last night and came away with an 80-72 win at Hudson Valley Community College. The Onondaga win snapped a 4 game losing streak to the Vikings and was the Lazers’ 4th straight on the season. Onondaga has now raised its overall record to 5-2 on the 2010-2011 campaign.
Heath Stone (Chittenango) scored 8 of Onondaga’s first 11 points as the Lazers jumped out to an 11-5 lead and never trailed throughout the remainder of the contest. A Kevin Corbin (Cicero-North Syracuse) tip-in just before the halftime break gave the Lazers a 45-38 lead at the break, and Onondaga came out and scored the first two baskets of the second half to take their biggest lead at 49-38. Hudson Valley rallied, however, and pulled within 1 at 65-64 with 4:50 to go. The Lazers responded with a 15-8 run to close the game and come away with the win.
Stone led the Onondaga attack with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Jesse Gates (Liverpool) also posted a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Andrew Lucio (Solvay) added 10 points and 10 assists. Corbin, Brandon Seibt (Central Square P.V. Moore), and Tom Graf (Jordan Elbridge) also reached double figures with 11, 11, and 10 points respectively. The Lazers shot 41.9% from the floor, 38.1% from behind the three-point arc, and 76.9% from the foul line, compared to 38.4% from the floor, 30.0% from the arc, and 45.5% from the foul line. The Lazers owned a 54-42 rebounding advantage, and a 26-2 margin in bench scoring.
Onondaga next plays tomorrow (Wednesday) at home at 6:00 pm against Word of Life Bible Institute.
