SYRACUSE, NY. – February 20, 2011 – The Onondaga Community College men’s basketball team has received the #7 seed for the National Junior College Athletic Association Region III Division III Tournament, as announced on Sunday evening. The Region III tournament will take place at Jefferson Community College in Watertown. The Lazers, 20-9 on the season, will face #2 seed Finger Lakes Community College, 23-5, in a quarter-final contest on Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm. The winner of the Onondaga-Finger Lakes game will face the winner of Friday’s 1:00 pm quarter-final between #3 Mohawk Valley Community College and #6 North Country Community College in a 1:00 pm semi-final on Saturday. The regional championship game will be held next Sunday at 1:00 pm. The Region III champion will advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III National Championship Tournament at Sullivan County Community College, March 10th through 12th.
Finger Lakes, the Mid-State Athletic Conference regular season champion, has defeated Onondaga in both regular season meetings this season. The Lakers came away with an 84-72 win at Onondaga on January 6th, and repeated the feat with a 91-65 win at Finger Lakes on January 26th. Finger Lakes is currently ranked #8 in the country n the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Division III national poll.
