Onondaga Community College men’s basketball player Jacob Johnson named NJCAA Academic All-American

Lazer post player is one of 6 Onondaga athletes to be recognized.

SYRACUSE, NY. – June 20, 2011 – Onondaga Community College men’s basketball player Jacob Johnson (Tully) has been named an Academic All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association. He received the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement, and is the first Onondaga men’s basketball player to be named Academic All-American since Shane Williams (Camillus West Genesee / Lindenwood University) received the distinction in 2008. Johnson, a two-year starter for the Lazers, graduated in May with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Automotive Technology and a 3.65 grade point average. He had previously been named NJCAA Region 3 Academic All-Region and had received the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Scholar Athlete Award. Upon his graduation from Onondaga, Johnson enlisted in the United States Air Force.

Johnson is one of six Onondaga student athletes to be named Academic All-American for 2010-2011 by the NJCAA. Men’s lacrosse player Garrett Dollard (Albany Colonie) and two-sport athlete Sierra Hall (Candor) also received the Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement. Men’s tennis player Jordan Sadowitz (Syracuse Faith Heritage) and women’s basketball players Cara Scalisi (Liverpool) and Christina Scalisi (Liverpool) received the award for Superior Academic Achievement.
