Onondaga Community College signs Syracuse Academy of Science star Ahmet Tunali to NJCAA Letter of Intent

Signing completes Lazers’ 2011-12 recruiting class

SYRACUSE, NY. – June 24, 2011 – The Onondaga Community College men’s basketball program has signed Ahmet Tunali, an exchange student from Istanbul, Turkey, to a National Junior College Athletic Association Letter of Intent. Tunali led the Syracuse Academy of Science to a 22-3 record and the New York State Class C championship game this past season. He is a 6’7” forward who averaged 15.2 points per game and was a 1st Team All-State selection in Class C. He was also a 2nd Team All-Central New York selection and an All-Onondaga High School League Patriot National division selection, and was selected to play in the Zebra Classic tournament.

With Tunali’s signing, the Lazers have now signed the NJCAA limit of 15 players. This group is expected to make up the nucleus of the 2011-2012 team, and includes six previously announced recruits: Jonathan Foulds (6’3” guard, Norwich), David Jackowski (6’2” forward, Cicero-North Syracuse), Adam Misener (6’ guard, Liverpool), Michael Scott (6’9” center, Chittenango), Jacob VanDusen (6’4” forward, Oneonta), and Tyler Wood (6’ guard, Broadalbin-Perth). Onondaga has also signed eight returning players from its 2010-2011 team: Jesse Gates (Liverpool, 17.8 ppg, 7.3 rpg), Jordan Prior (Cortland, 6.2 ppg, 3.1 apg), Tom Graf (Jordan-Elbridge, 6.8 ppg, 3.0 rpg), Brandon Seibt (Central Square, 10.0 ppg), Kevin Corbin (Cicero-North Syracuse, 4.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg), Mike Ontl (Davenport Charlotte Valley, 2.2 ppg), Nick Rizzo (, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, 1.8 ppg) and Steve Lothridge (East Syracuse-Minoa, 1.7 rpg).

Onondaga will look to extend its streak of 11 consecutive post-season appearances in 2011-2012. Last year, the Lazers finished 20-10 and advanced to the Mid-State Athletic Conference semi-finals and the NJCAA Region 3 quarter-finals. Onondaga will open the 2011-2012 season at home on November 5, against Northampton Community College.
