SYRACUSE, NY. – February 13, 2012 – Onondaga Community College men’s basketball player Ian Hamm (Liverpool) has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 3 Male Co-Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 12th. Hamm is the second Lazer this season to receive the award, which recognizes the top performance in Region 3 across all sports and divisions. Jordan Prior (Cortland) shared the award with basketball player Xavier Kennedy of Jamestown Community College for the week ending November 6th.
Hamm led Onondaga to wins over Broome Community College and Jefferson Community College last week. At Broome, he scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, as the Lazers came from behind for a 91-86 victory. He made 6 of 12 shots from the floor, 1 of 2 from behind the three-point arc, and 2 of 3 from the foul line. Against Jefferson, Hamm scored a career high 24 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and made 9 of 16 shots, including 2 of 5 from behind the arc and 4 of 7 from the line. With the game tied, he converted the go ahead field goal with 49 seconds remaining, as Onondaga captured an 87-82 win.
Onondaga is currently 15-11 overall and 6-4 in Mid-State Athletic Conference play this season. The Lazers will host MSAC co-leader Tompkins Cortland Community College in their final regular season home contest. The game will tip off at 7:00 pm, and will be the part of the first Onondaga athletic event to be held in the new SRC Arena and Events Center.
