Tyler Bliss (Liverpool) and Vaughndell Brantley (Cicero-North Syracuse) have signed and committed to continue their education and basketball careers at Onondaga in 2012-2013. With the addition of Bliss and Brantley, the Lazers have now completed their recruiting class and have signed the NJCAA limit of 15 players.
Bliss, a 6’2” forward, emerged as a team leader for Liverpool during his senior season, his second on the Warriors’ varsity. He was one of the Warriors’ co-captains and averaged a team best 13 points and 7 rebounds per game on the year. He was also an All-Tournament selection at both the Juggler Classic and the CNS Holiday Classic. Bliss was a two-sport standout for the Warriors, as he also garnered 2nd team All-CNYCL honors as an outfielder on the Liverpool baseball team.
Brantley, a 6’2’ forward, was a three-year varsity performer for CNS, during which time the Northstars amassed a 52-10 record and captured the school’s first Section III championship. As a senior he averaged a team best 13.8 points per game. Brantley was a 13th team Class AA All-State selection and a 1st team All-CNYCL selection, and was named to the All-Central New York team by The Post-Standard. He was also a two-sport standout, as he competed as a wide receiver and defensive back on the CNS football team.
Bliss and Brantley will join previously announced recruits Dylan Amo (Hermon DeKalb), Michael Granato (Auburn), David Haye (Spring Valley Ramapo), Benjamin Honahan (Malone Franklin Academy), Michael Moakler (Cooperstown), Michael Sugamosto (Syracuse Bishop Grimes), and Tyler Thielges (Wayland-Cohocton), 2011-2012 returnees Adam Misener (Liverpool), Malik Mountain (Nedrow Onondaga), Garrett Sisson (Schenectady Mohonasen), Jacob VanDusen (Oneonta), Tyler Wood (Broadalbin-Perth), and redshirt Zachary Loura (Fulton G. Ray Bodley) to form the nucleus of Onondaga’s 2012-2013 team. The final roster will be released in early October.
Onondaga will look to extend its streak of 12 consecutive post-season appearances in 2012-2013. Last year, the Lazers finished 17-14 and advanced to the Mid-State Athletic Conference championship game and the NJCAA Region 3 quarter-finals. Onondaga will open the 2012-2013 season on November 3, at Lehigh Carbon Community College.
