Onondaga CC men’s basketball player Vaughndell Brantley named Mid-State Athletic Conference Player of the Week

CNS grad first Onondaga player to receive MSAC honors since 2011

SYRACUSE, NY. – February 4, 2013 – Onondaga Community College men’s basketball player Vaughndell Brantley (Cicero-North Syracuse) was named the Mid-State Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending February 2nd today. This is the third major weekly honor for the 6’1” swingman. Brantley was twice named National Junior College Athletic Association Region 3 Male Athlete of the Week earlier in the season prior to the start of conference play, for the weeks ending November 11th and January 6th. He is the first Onondaga player to receive conference honors since Jesse Gates (Liverpool) was named Player of the Week in January of 2011.

Brantley received conference honors on the strength of his play in leading Onondaga to a 93-86 win at Corning Community College on Saturday afternoon. In that contest he scored a very efficient 32 points on only 9 field goal attempts, including scoring 12 straight points in staking the Lazers to a 17-0 lead. For the game he made 7 of 9 shots, including 4 of 5 from behind the 3-point arc, and 14 of 17 free throws. He added 2 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal. For the season Brantley averages 14.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per contest. He is shooting 47.5% from the floor, 39.7% from the three-point line, and 67.5% from the free throw line.

Onondaga, 14-9 on the season and 4-4 in Mid-State play, returns to action on Tuesday night, when they host Broome Community College. Tip-off is 8 pm in Allyn Hall.
