ONONDAGA CC BASKETBALL PLAYER JEFF RIKER NAMED REGION III MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Dryden grad recognized for leading Lazers past North Country, Clinton.

SYRACUSE, NY. -- February 8, 2006 -- Onondaga Community College men’s basketball player Jeff Riker (Dryden) has been named National Junior College Athletic Association Region III Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 5, 2006. This honor recognizes the top performance among all male athletes in all Region III sports and divisions.

Riker was recognized for his efforts in leading Onondaga to back to back wins over the weekend. On Saturday, he scored 20 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and handed out 3 assists in the Lazers’ 116-87 win over North Country Community College. He followed that up the next day with a career high 25 points on 11 of 14 shooting, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals in leading Onondaga past Clinton community College, 93-58. For the week, Riker averaged 17.3 points 6.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per game and shot 59% from the floor. On the season, he is averaging 8.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.0 steals per contest, and regularly draws the opponent’s leading scorer as his defensive assignment.

Onondaga currently has an overall record of 12-10. The Lazers return to action tonight (Wednesday) with an 8:00 pm contest at Tompkins Cortland Community College. The next home contest will be this Saturday, February 11, at 3:00 pm against Cayuga Community College.
