Lazers post back-to-back wins over regionally ranked foes.
SYRACUSE, NY. -- January 15, 2006 -- The Onondaga Community College men’s basketball team ran out to a 67-58 halftime lead on the way to a 111-97 home win over Finger Lakes Community College on Saturday afternoon. With the win Onondaga evened its Mid-State Athletic Conference record at 1-1, and ran its overall record to 9-5. The victory was also the 100th in 165 games as Lazers’ head coach for Dave Pasiak (Waterville), who is currently in his 6th season at Onondaga.
Against Finger Lakes, the Lazers established a quick pace from the onset and capitalized on their depth. All 13 Onondaga players that dressed played in both halves, and 12 of the 13 scored. Adrian Hanks (Liverpool), led the way with 34 points on 12 of 15 shooting, including 5 of 7 from behind the three point arc. Kenny Gethers (Syracuse Bishop Grimes) added 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals. Justin Stern (Jamesville-DeWitt) also reached double figures with 12 points on 4 three-point goals. Steve Siechen (East Syracuse-Minoa) also grabbed 7 rebounds, and Pat Mannion (Marcellus) handed out a team best 7 assists. The Lazers owned a 38-35 rebounding advantage and shot 52% from the floor.
The Lazers came into yesterday’s game off of a 104-91 win over Hudson Valley Community College last Wednesday night. In that contest, the Lazers again used relentless full court pressure to negate Hudson Valley’s substantial size advantage. The Lazers forced 31 Viking turnovers and connected on 11 of 23 three-point attempts. Hanks again led the way with 23 points, followed by Gethers with 20. Mannion added 14 points and Reggie Flynn (Jamesville-DeWitt) added 10. Gethers was the top rebounder with 9, while Jeff Riker (Dryden) handed out 6 assists.
