ONONDAGA CC'S GETHERS NAMED MID-STATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Former Bishop Grimes standout recognized for leading Lazers to two wins.

SYRACUSE, NY. -- February 13, 2006 -- Onondaga Community College men's basketball player Kenny Gethers (Syracuse Bishop Grimes) has been named the Mid-State Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending February 12, 2006.

Gethers led Onondaga to two conference wins on the week.  Last Wednesday at Tompkins Cortland Community College, in 20 minutes  he scored 20 points on 8 of 15 shooting, grabbed10 rebounds, and handed out 4 assists in a 123-84 Onondaga win.  On Saturday against Cayuga Community College, he played 39 minutes, scored 25 points on 11 of 12 shooting, grabbed 13 rebounds, blocked 3 shots, and had 3 steals in leading the Lazers to an 83-72 win,  For the week, he averaged 22.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game and shot 70.4% from the floor.  He is currently second in the conference in scoring, averaging 20.3 points per game in conference play.  He is also 6th in rebounding at 9.2 rebounds per game, and leads the conference in steals at 3.2 per game.

Onondaga has won its last four contests, and returns to action at home this Wednesday, February 15, at 8:00 pm, with a Mid-State Conference contest against SUNY Canton.
