SYRACUSE, NY. -- February 23, 2006 -- Onondaga Community College men’s basketball player Kenny Gethers (Syracuse Bishop Grimes) has been named to the Mid-State Athletic Conference All-Conference team, as voted on by the league’s coaches. Gethers, a 6’3” forward, is second in the conference in scoring, averaging 20.0 points per game in conference play. He is also sixth in rebounding, averaging 10.2 rebounds per game, and leads the conference in steals with 3.4 per game. Overall on the season, Gethers is averaging 18.1 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 3.2 steals per game.
Onondaga players Jeff Riker (Dryden) and Adrian Hanks (Liverpool) were honorable mention All-Conference selections. Riker, a 6’4” guard, averaged 11.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.8 steals in conference play. Hanks, a 5’11” guard, averaged 16.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.1 steals in Mid-State play.
The Lazers finished the regular season with an overall record of 17-11 and a 7-7 mark in Mid-State play. Onondaga has qualified for the NJCAA Region III Division III Championship Tournament, and will likely play in a first round game next Tuesday, February 28. The opponent, location, and time of the game will be announced by the Region III men’s basketball committee on Sunday evening.
