Onondaga CC’S Kenny Gethers, Jeff Riker, Adrian Hanks compete in Region III All-Star Game

Riker crowned Slam Dunk champion.

SYRACUSE, NY. -- April 14, 2006 -- Onondaga Community College men’s basketball players Kenny Gethers (Syracuse Bishop Grimes), Jeff Riker (Dryden), and Adrian Hanks (Liverpool) competed in the NJCAA Region III Senior All-Star Game last night at Herkimer County Community College. The game pitted the top senior players, including the Onondaga trio, from Mid-State Athletic Conference against the top seniors from the Mountain Valley Conference, with the Mountain Valley All-Stars coming away with a 106-88 win.

Hanks scored a game high 23 points, including 5 consecutive three-point field goals in the game’s final 3:00, the last of which came from 75 feet at the buzzer. Riker started the contest for the Mid-State All-Stars, and ended the evening with 11 points. Gethers added 8 points.

At halftime of the game, All-Stars from both conferences competed in a Slam Dunk contest. Riker and Gethers both reached the semi-final round, and Riker defeated Morrisville State’s Brandon Mitchell in the finals to be crowned regional Slam Dunk champion.

Riker will continue his education and basketball career at SUNY Potsdam next year, while Gethers and Hanks are still undecided on their transfer options.
