SYRACUSE, NY. – October 22, 2006 – Onondaga Community College has announced its 2006-2007 Men’s Basketball roster. Co-captains Steve Siechen, a 6’4” forward from East Syracuse-Minoa, and Justin Stern, a 6’2” guard from Jamesville-DeWitt, will lead the 2006-2007 Lazers. Siechen played in all 29 games last season, averaging 5.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest. Stern averaged 6.4 points per game in 25 contests while connecting on 31 three point goals and shooting a team best 78% from the foul line. Other returning players are Tyler Kurzinski (6’ guard, Central Square P.V. Moore) and Dan Smith (6’2” guard, Canastota). Kurzinski averaged 3.9 points and 3.3 assists last season, while Smith averaged 8.6 points per game in 2004-2005.
Onondaga will also get significant contributions from three transfer students. Rich Buckmon (6’2” forward, Syracuse Henninger / Cayuga Community College) was a 1st team All-Mid-State Athletic Conference and 3rd team All-Region 3 selection last season. He will be joined by Brett Liedka (6’7” center, Syracuse Bishop Grimes / SUNY Oswego) and Chris Vincent (6’3” guard, Baldwinsville C.W. Baker / SUNY Cortland).
11 freshmen in a deep and talented incoming class round out the roster. They include Mitch Beaver (5’10” guard, Cicero-North Syracuse), Ryan Chapman (6’2” forward, Syracuse Bishop Ludden), Pat Crowley (6’4” forward, Union Springs), Ben Johnson (6’2” forward, Sherburne-Earlville), Josh Kennedy (5’10” guard, Chittenango), Cameron Manley (6’1” swingman, Fort Plain), Andreau McCallops (6’2” guard, Cazenovia), Tim Scholz (6’ guard, Camillus West Genesee), Luke Schrader (6’2” guard, Herkimer), Zack Thomsen (6’1” guard, Unadilla Valley), and Shane Williams (6’5” forward, Camillus West Genesee).
Dave Pasiak (Waterville) returns for his 7th year as Onondaga’s head coach. In his first 6 seasons, he has directed the Lazers to a 108-73 record, including a 55-29 mark in Mid-State Athletic Conference play. Onondaga is one of only three schools to have qualified for the NJCAA Region III tournament in each of the past five seasons. Pasiak is again assisted by Johnny Davis (Syracuse). They will be joined on the staff by Pat Mannion (Marcellus), who was the Lazers’ starting point guard the past two seasons, and Scott Blair (Syracuse), who comes to Onondaga after a stint as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Kutztown University.
Onondaga will open its season on Saturday, November 4, when they take on NJCAA Division II Jamestown-Cattaraugus County Community College in the opening round of the Columbia-Greene Community College Twins Classic. The Lazers are the event’s defending champions. Onondaga plays its first 5 games on the road. The home opener will be on Sunday, November 19, when the Lazers host Jamestown-Cattaraugus.
