SYRACUSE, NY. – October 30, 2006 – Onondaga Community College men’s basketball player Rich Buckmon (Syracuse Henninger), a 6’2” forward, has been named a National Junior College Athletic Association Division III 2nd Team Pre-Season All-American for the 2006-07 season. Buckmon transferred to Onondaga this year from Cayuga Community College. At Cayuga last season he averaged 16.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He was a 1st team All-Mid-State Athletic Conference and 3rd team All-Region 3 selection.
Buckmon is the 4th Lazer to be named a pre-season All-American in the past 6 seasons. Former Lazers to be so honored included Chet Columbus (2001-02, Syracuse Bishop Grimes, transferred to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts), Joe Olsen (2003-04, Central Square P.V. Moore, Daemen College), and Dan Marsella (2004-05, Liverpool, Erskine College).
Onondaga will open its season this Saturday, November 4, when they take on NJCAA Division II Jamestown-Cattaraugus County Community College at 1:00 pm in the opening round of the Columbia-Greene Community College Twins Classic. The Lazers are the event’s defending champions. Onondaga plays its first 5 games on the road. The home opener will be on Sunday, November 19, when the Lazers host Jamestown-Cattaraugus.
