Onondaga Community College picks up road win at Schenectady County CC

Balanced attack carries Lazers to victory

SYRACUSE, NY. - November 29, 2006 - The Onondaga Community College men's basketball team defeated Schenectady County Community College, 89-63, last night at the Schenectady Armory. The Lazers, playing for the first time in 9 days, raised their record to 4-3 on the season.

After an early 7-7 tie, Onondaga scored 11 straight points on two three-point goals by Justin Stern (Jamesville-DeWitt) and a three-pointer and a two-pointer by Zack Thomsen (New Berlin Unadilla Valley). The Lazers extended the lead to 16 points at halftime, and Schenectady never got closer than 14 in the second half. Steve Siechen (East Syracuse Minoa) led a balanced Onondaga attack with 14 points and Thomsen added 11. Shane Williams (Camillus West Genesee) recorded a double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds and Danny Smith (Canastota) also tallied 10 points. Thomsen handed out a team best 5 assists, as 17 Lazers played in the game, with 14 scoring. Onondaga made 38 of 62 field goal attempts (61%), while holding Schenectady to 24 of 67 (36%). Onondaga owned a 45-30 rebounding advantage.

The Lazers return to action this Saturday with a 3:00 pm home contest against Clinton Community College.
