SYRACUSE, NY. - January 26, 2007 - The Onondaga Community College men's basketball team recorded an impressive 95-65 victory over Corning Community College on Wednesday night. The Lazers broke a 28-28 tie by closing the first half on a 17-2 run to take control of the game. Corning never got closer than 11 points the rest of the way, as Onondaga was able to extend its advantage to as much as 38 points in the second half. The win raised the Lazers' record to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in Mid-State Athletic Conference play
Steve Siechen (East Syracuse-Minoa led the Onondaga attack with 30 points, matching his career high, and also grabbed 9 rebounds. He was joined in double figures by Danny Smith (Canastota) and Rich Buckmon (Syracuse Henninger), who tallied 17 and 15 points respectively. Smith and Tyler Kurzinski (Central Square P.V. Moore) each handed out 10 assists, and Shane Williams (Camillus West Genesee) grabbed 9 rebounds. The Lazers connected on 41 of 70 field goal attempts (59%), while limiting the Red Barons to 27 of 68 (40%). Onondaga held a commanding 54-28 rebounding advantage.
The Lazers return to action tomorrow (Saturday) with a 3:00 pm home contest against Broome Community College. Broome will enter the game leading the Mid-State Conference with a 6-0 league mark, while the Lazers are right behind in second spot at 4-1.
