SYRACUSE, NY. – November 17, 2007 – The Onondaga Community College men’s basketball team remained undefeated on Thursday night, as the Lazers upended SUNY Delhi, 95-85. The contest was the home opener for Onondaga, and extends the Lazers’ record to 4-0 on the season. Onondaga broke a 23-23 tie by outscoring the Broncos, 28-12, over the final 7:25 of the first half. Onondaga maintained a double digit lead throughout the second half, extending it to 20 with 1:00 remiaining in the contest. A 12-2 Delhi run in the game’s final minute provided the final margin.
Shane Williams (Camillus West Genesee) led the Onondaga attack, as he connected on 10 of 17 shots from the floor and 4 of 5 free throws for a game high 24 points. Williams also led Onondaga with 18 rebounds and 7 assists. The Lazers again received excellent offensive balance, as Kevin Barrett (Syracuse Bishop Ludden) tallied 16 points, Luke Schrader (Herkimer) added 14, and Chris Vincent (Baldwinsville C.W. Baker) chipped in 10. Onondaga has now had at least 4 double figure scorers in each contest this season. Barrett added 8 rebounds, and point guard Zack Thomsen (New Berlin Unadilla Valley) handed out 5 assists and had 0 turnovers in 38 minutes. Onondaga made 32 of 59 shots (54%) for the game, and also made 25 of 39 (64%) from the foul line. Delhi connected on 36 of 88 (40%) from the floor and 8 of 12 (66%) from the line. Onondaga held a slim 45-44 rebounding advantage.
Onondaga’s next contest is set for Sunday, November 25, when the Lazers host Hudson Valley Community College. Tip-off is set for 3:00 pm.
