Onondaga Community College men’s basketball ranked #16 in the country in the latest NJCAA poll

SYRACUSE, NY. – November 20, 2007 – The Onondaga Community College men’s basketball team appears in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III national poll for the first time since November, 2003. The Lazers, off to a 4-0 start on the season, are ranked #16 in the country in the first regular season poll, which was released today. In their next game, Onondaga will host Hudson Valley Community College on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm. Hudson Valley is currently 7-0, and is ranked #2 in the nation.

Onondaga players are also among the national leaders in several statistical categories, according to the latest NJCAA official NJCAA statistics. Shane Williams (Camillus West Genesee) is 2nd nationally in rebounding, averaging 14.0 rebounds per contest. Chris Vincent (Baldwinsville C.W. Baker) and Pete Byrne (Syracuse Bishop Ludden) are 7th and 14th in free throw percentage, shooting 90.0% and 87.5% respectively. Zack Thomsen (New Berlin Unadilla Valley) is 10th in assists with 6.5 per contest, and Ryan Chapman (Syracuse Bishop Ludden) is 13th in field goal percentage, shooting 68.5% from the floor. As a team, the Lazers are 6th in the country in scoring, averaging 96.5 points per game, and 10th in field goal percentage, shooting 50.2% from the floor.
