SYRACUSE, NY. – December 12, 2007 – Onondaga Community College men’s basketball player Shane Williams (Camillus West Genesee) today was named National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week for the week ending December 9, 2007. Williams, a 6’5” second year forward, shared the honor with Justin Strickland of Davidson County Community College in North Carolina. Williams is the 5th Onondaga player ever to receive the recognition.
Williams led his team to three wins last week, the last two coming in the Onondaga Community College Classic. Last Tuesday, December 4, he scored 14 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in an 86-75 win over Mohawk Valley Community College. In the first game of the tournament on Saturday, he recorded a double-double of 26 points and 14 rebounds in a 94-81 victory over Bunker Hill Community College. On Sunday, he scored 19 points and took down 9 rebounds in Onondaga's 88-58 victory in the tourney's title game against Columbia-Greene Community College. He was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. On the season, Williams is Onondaga’s leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 17.6 points and 12.4 rebounds per contest. He is also 2nd on the team in assists, handing out 3.6 per game.
Williams has led Onondaga to an 8-2 record thus far this season. The Lazers next play January 2nd and 3rd in the Polk Community College New Year’s Classic in Winter Haven, FL.
