This course will provide the necessary training for individuals wishing to pursue employment as certified, professional interpreters in the medical field. This is a multi-phase approach to preparing students to deliver high quality, professional, ethical, and competent interpreter services. This 150-hour course will emphasize both didactic education and skill proficiency by combining course material and skill exercises in each session, including one-on-one coaching instruction and evaluation. Onondaga Community College has partnered with Multicultural Association of Medical Interpreters (M.A.M.I.) to offer this course. Materials and books are included in tuition. High school diploma or high school equivalent/GED is required.
Pre-requisite: Students must be fluent in two languages and pass a screening evaluation. The evaluation is $75, payable at the time of the scheduling.
