STEM Camp (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)

Monday, July 24 - Friday, July 28, 2017
9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Mulroy Hall

In the classroom, students will learn the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 robotics programming software. The EV3 Intelligent Brick makes it possible to control motors, collect sensor feedback, and enables Bluetooth and Wi-Fi communication, programming, and data logging. Students will work in teams to design a robot and then assemble it using motors, sensors, gears, wheels and axles, and other technical components. Students solve problems and gain practical, hands-on experience using mathematical concepts, such as estimating and measuring distance, time and speed.

The second part of STEM Camp consists of daily field trips to local companies that incorporate science, technology, engineering or math into their organizational operations. Previous corporate partners have included: Lockheed Martin, National Grid, Onondaga County Sheriff's Bomb Squad, Schneider Packaging and Equipment, SRC, St. Joseph's Hospital, SALT Makerspace, Time Warner Cable, The Post-Standard, TWC News, Ultra Dairy, and Welch Allyn. Students will be required to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes for the field trips, and should be prepared to walk distances and climb stairs. Certain tours require wearing special safety equipment and are conducted in tight spaces. A photo ID is required for some field trips.

Tuition: $300
