Student Philanthropy Month

Teaching Students about the Power of Collective Philanthropy

Show Me the Money Day

Student Philanthropy Month runs from February 1-28, 2018.  During this month, students are encouraged to benefit from the services offered by The Learning Center, Career Services and through their attendance at the spring Transfer Fair (scheduled for February 7, 2018 at the Gordon Great Room).  When students sign up for 1-on-1 meetings, workshops or tutoring, they can increase their chance to succeed at their goals, while learning how employee donations help support students in need.  Every dollar donated by an employee is represented by one LAZER token.

With the LAZER tokens they earn while benefitting from these services, students will have the opportunity to help direct those employee donations to support two funding initiatives, developed by Phi Theta Kappa and the Student Association.  And, they will become eligible to win one of 10 $250 LAZER Card grants.

Last year 972 OCC students participated.  Student Philanthropy Month 2017 culminated on Show Me the Money Day, where 10 lucky students were awarded $250 grants, and PTK’s ‘Completion and Transfer Fund’ earned $6,234 and the Student Association’s ‘Semester Start-up Fund’ earned $3,276.

Make your plans to join in on this year’s action.
