Apply for Federal Aid

Everyone attending college should fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The federal government provides over $150 billion in Pell Grants, Federal Work-Study and student loans each year to help students pay for their education. Completing the FAFSA is free and easy and allows your eligibility for these funds to be assessed. The Financial Aid office is here to help.

Before you begin the FAFSA, ask yourself if the following statements are true.

  1. Gather your social security number, Federal tax returns and/or W-2s from the last two years. You will need to reference these documents.

  2. Create a FSA ID for the student and parent.

  3. Complete the FAFSA

  4. Don't stop now! Scroll down to see if you qualify for NYS Aid. If you do, link to the TAP application as soon as you submit the FAFSA.

Apply for New York State Aid

All New York State residents should apply for New York State financial aid after completing their FAFSA.

Full-time students may be eligible for the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). TAP is a grant, so it does not have to be paid back and it can provide assistance up to full tuition costs! Part-time aid programs are part of New York State’s grant assistance, so that money also does not have to be paid back. Applying is free and easy, and the Financial Aid Office is here to help.

Before you begin applying for NYS aid, ask yourself if the following statements are true.

You are ready to begin applying for New York State Financial Aid! Follow these steps to get started:

  1. Gather your social security number, New York State tax returns and/or W-2s from the last two years. You will need to reference these documents.

  2. Link to the TAP application as soon as you submit the FAFSA or wait 3 business days after submitting the FAFSA and Apply for TAP

  3. Part-time Students: after applying for TAP, Apply for Aid for Part-Time Study and submit it to the Financial Aid Office.

  4. OCC and New York State provide students various scholarship opportunities every year. Scholarships are money that doesn't need to be paid back. Take a look and apply today!
