Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Create New Scholarships at Onondaga
Onondaga Community College and Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists (S.O.S.) are proud to announce a new partnership which will create new student scholarships and improve athletic and cultural experiences for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
S.O.S. is giving the College a generous gift totaling $250,000 which will be used to create a new “Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Community Scholars Scholarship.” The S.O.S. Scholarship will be part of the College’s Community Scholars program which awards up to $1,000 in scholarship money to incoming high school graduates, adult learners, and former Onondaga students who did not complete their degree but are within 15 credits of completion.
In addition, the gift from S.O.S. supports the SRC Arena and Events Center which serves students and community members by providing a variety of sports, cultural, and community events.
“Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists has been a highly respected leader in the orthopedics and sports medicine community for years, and we are very proud to have their support as we continue to advance the mission of the College,” says John Zacharek, vice president for development at Onondaga Community College. “Their support will allow us to create new scholarship opportunities for students who need it most, as well as to continue to enhance the overall student experience through the myriad of athletic and cultural events on campus at the SRC Arena and Events Center.”
“We’re very excited to support student success at Onondaga Community College,” says Michael Humphrey, CEO of Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists. “Our practice is dedicated to helping people live active, healthy lives, but we also understand the power of education and enrichment. We hope to enhance as many lives as possible through our support.”
For over 35 years, Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists’ surgeons have been providing care to the families in our community. S.O.S. is also a major supporter of On Point for College, a local nonprofit organization opening doors to higher education for the inner city youth. On August 23, S.O.S. hosted the Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Golf for Grads Tournament, raising thousands of dollars to benefit On Point.
“The S.O.S. team is very proud of our reputation for excellence in orthopedics and sports medicine, and we stand ready to assist athletes of all ages throughout Central New York,” said Humphrey. “Whether it be supporting students in the classroom, or supporting athletes who have had an injury, our commitment to the well-being of the Central New York community is paramount.”
