Six Students Earn SUNY Chancellor's Awards

Six Onondaga Community College students were honored with Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence. The winners were announced this afternoon in Albany. Onondaga’s recipients are:

Benjamin Cleeton
Hometown: Pittsford, NY
Major: Photography
Graduation date: May 2013
Three major accomplishments:

  • Published photographs and an article on the Arts Across Campus Legends of Jazz Series featuring Allen Toussaint in the school newspaper.
  • Won 2nd place in Onondaga’s student art show for digital photography.
  • Volunteer photographer for the non-profit group, Media Unit.

Sophie Louise Jackson
Hometown: Marcellus, NY
Major: Childhood Education
Graduation date: May 2013
Three major accomplishments:

  • President’s List (GPA between 3.7 and 4.0) every semester at Onondaga.
  • Voted 2nd team all-region and all-conference for softball, voted all-conference for soccer.
  • Nominated for student board of trustees.

Jenna Johnson
Hometown: Effingham, IL
Major: Business Administration
Graduation date: May 2013
Three major accomplishments:

  • President’s List (GPA between 3.7 and 4.0) every semester at Onondaga.
  • Named captain of the 2012-2013 Onondaga Women’s Basketball team.
  • Volunteer at the Otisco Fire Department.

Sarah Radford
Hometown: Cicero, NY
Major: Business Administration
Graduation date: December 2012
Three major accomplishments:

  • President of the Student Association.
  • President of Onondaga’s chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success.
  • Regular volunteer at Salvation Army serving food to the homeless.

Garrett Sisson
Hometown; Schnectady, NY
Major: Humanities
Graduation date: May 2013
Three major accomplishments:

  • Member of Onondaga’s Presidential Search Committee.
  • Two year member of the Men’s Basketball team, voted captain for the 2nd year.
  • Member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society

Sheralyn Wellman
Hometown: Syracuse, NY
Major: Music
Graduation date: May 2013
Three major accomplishments:

  • Member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
  • 3rd place in Music Performance Awards Competition.
  • Assistant Stage Manager for Syracuse Opera’s Production of “Tosca.”
