Creating the next generation of scientists

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is focused on increasing diversity in the STEM community, providing undergraduate research opportunities, and aiding underrepresented students to completing more advanced degrees. We do this through 2 essential support services:

Financial Support

  • Stipend
  • Funding for travel to research & conferences
  • Equipment for research
  • Textbooks & course materials

Academic Support

  • Faculty mentors
  • Networking opportunities
  • Research experience opportunities
  • Seminars on transferring
  • Student success programming

Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs) are mentored investigations that seek to make a scholarly contribution to science. OCC LSAMP students are assisted in applying for these paid opportunities that range from 10-weeks to 1-week, are local to Syracuse or at other nationwide institutions, and occur during winter, spring, or summer breaks.
