Creating the next generation of scientists

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is focused on increasing diversity in the STEM community, providing undergraduate research opportunities, and aiding underrepresented students to completing more advanced degrees. We do this through 2 essential support services:


Financial Support

  • Textbooks & course materials


Academic Support

  • Faculty mentors
  • Networking opportunities
  • Research experience opportunities
  • Seminars on transferring
  • Student success programming

 

LSAMP

Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs) are mentored investigations that seek to make a scholarly contribution to science. OCC LSAMP students are assisted in applying for these paid opportunities that range from 10-weeks to 1-week, are local to Syracuse or at other nationwide institutions, and occur during winter, spring, or summer breaks.
 

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident
  • From an underrepresented group: Native American, Black, African-American, Hispanic, Latino, Native Hawaiian, or other Pacific Islander
  • Pursuing a B.S. degree in STEM with plans to complete a PhD
  • Minimum GPA of 2.7
  • Attend LSAMP general meetings and at least 2 activities/seminars/workshops each semester
  • Agree to meet with the LSAMP staff multiple times a semester
