Student Spotlight: Oliver Greer
Oliver Greer still has vivid memories of the first time he saw Onondaga Community College and the surrounding area. The native of Newtownards, Northern Ireland had seen New York City but never traveled upstate. "I remember riding up Onondaga Hill and seeing all of the houses and thinking it was like something from a movie. It was much different than New York City which was very touristy. This feels like home for me now."
Amazon's Career Choice Gives Employee Second Chance at College
Marcos Molina figured his opportunity to earn a college degree had passed him by. He had graduated from Fowler High School in 2012 and come to Onondaga Community College where he majored in Computer Science. Three years later, he was out of school. "I thought I was done. I was maxed out on credits, my financial aid was done. I couldn't afford college anymore."
Student Spotlight: Bianca Teixeira
Bianca Teixeira has overcome significant challenges to be here. She's a cancer survivor who became addicted to pain medication. She was raised by her grandfather, a war veteran who struggled with his own substance abuse issues. Today she's in remission, two years sober, on her way to completing her first college degree, and a member of Onondaga Community College's Student Government. "I feel extremely fortunate. I am absolutely blessed."
Fall 2024 Honor Society Inductees
Onondaga Community College's award-winning chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society welcomed over 150 new members during an induction ceremony. The event was held in Storer Auditorium October 23rd.
Inductees must be currently matriculated, have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at OCC, and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5.

National Transfer Week: Kyle Goff's Transfer Story
The week of October 21-25 is National Transfer Student Week. Onondaga Community College will host a Transfer Fair today in the Gordon Student Center Great Room from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Students will have the opportunity to have in-person conversations with representatives of colleges and universities where they are interested in continuing their education. Grace Meeker seems destined for a career in finance. After completing her high school education, she spent two years working at Wegmans and saving money for college. "I wanted to get my degree as affordably as possible. OCC was a smart decision for me."
