This 6-week course is designed to teach new knitters the skills necessary to complete a first project, and to support the student through the process. Students who progress quickly will have the opportunity to choose the direction of their continued learning. The Introduction to Knitting program costs $150.

Objective: Students will learn the foundations of knitting through the construction of a beginning project.

Pre-requisite: A desire to learn to knit.

Skills taught:

  • Foundational Stitches – the knit and purl Casting on, binding off, and weaving in ends
  • Selecting patterns and materials for a project Introduction to the language of knitting – abbreviations and how to read a pattern
  • Splicing – how to add a new ball of yarn
  • Handling mistakes
  • How to read your knitting – recognizing rows and various stitches
  • Understanding gauge Ergonomics of knitting
  • How to access and print online resources
