Grit Scale

OCC students are encouraged to take the short survey linked below to determine their “grit” score.

What is grit?

Grit is passion and perseverance for long-term goals.

One way to think about grit is to consider what grit isn’t.

Grit isn’t talent. Grit isn’t luck. Grit isn’t how intensely, for the moment, you want something.

Instead, grit is about having a goal you care about so much that it organizes and gives meaning to almost everything you do. And grit is holding steadfast to that goal. Even when you fall down. Even when you screw up. Even when progress toward that goal is slow.

How is it helpful?

Getting your grit score is an opportunity for self-reflection.  At OCC, it will help you start a conversation about your evolving passion and perseverance and help you be more successful in college. Want to discuss your grit score? The Grit scale was originally developed by Dr. Angela Duckworth.  More info about her and her research can be found at www.angeladuckworth.com
