Micron's plans to build a chip making plant in Onondaga County is sparking a building boom, including the construction of the Micron Cleanroom Simulation Lab on the OCC campus.

There's a building boom coming to our region!

With the arrival of Micron there will be the need for more housing, more hotels, more everything. And there's the Interstate 81 project as well which is just beginning and will span several years.

With so much work ahead, the need is greater than ever for industry professionals to be collaborating. That's why the OCC Foundation organized a forum titled, "Building the Future: Construction and Architecture in the Growing CNY Landscape."

The networking and panel discussion will be held Thursday, March 7 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Syracuse Marriott Downtown. Panelists will include:

  • Professor Lauren Staniec of OCC's Architectural Design and Construction Management degree programs.
  • Andrew Schuster, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, Principal at Ashley McGraw Architects.
  • Andy Breuer, President of Hueber Breuer Construction.

The event is the first in a series of "Topics on Tap" networking and panel discussions. Sponsors are Ashley McGraw Architects, Hueber Breuer, and the Marriott Syracuse Downtown.

"Ashley McGraw's unwavering commitment to Central New York is a core part of our identity. We are proud to sponsor OCC's Topics on Tap and support a shared vision for growth in our region," said Andrew Schuster of Ashley McGraw.

"We're proud to work with a diverse set of community partners to help ensure the construction industry locally is being thoughtful and intentional in its approach. We believe the path forward is best approached with a shared sense of purpose and optimism," said Andy Breuer of Hueber-Breuer.

OCC Alumnus Ed Riley '75 will proudly host the event inside his hotel which is celebrating its 100 year anniversary. "The renovation of the Hotel Syracuse into the Marriott Syracuse Downtown is an example of several OCC Alumni working on this transformative project to make it a reality. It will be exciting to see what future generations of OCC grads contribute to our region."

The panel discussion will be hosted by Glenn LaPoint '16 who is also known as Gomez on radio station WTKW, TK-99.

The event was organized by Russ Corbin, OCC Foundation Director of Alumni Relations and Community Connections.
