OCC honored past and present Lazers during its annual Athletics Banquet. Former Women's Basketball Head Coach Mike Wheeler was one of five inducted into the Lazers Athletics Hall of Fame.

Onondaga Community College celebrated the achievements of past and present members of the Lazers' Athletics family during its annual banquet April 27 in the SRC Arena.

Five exceptional athletes and coaches were inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame, celebrating careers that helped define the college's tradition of excellence. The honorees are:

Brittany Cohen, Women’s Basketball
•    Brittany earned All-American honors while leading the OCC’s Women’s Basketball team to a National Championship Runner-Up finish in 2010.
•    She just completed her 10th season as Women’s Basketball Head Coach at SUNY Potsdam.
 

Cody Jamieson, Men’s Lacrosse
•    Cody was an All-American Men’s Lacrosse player who helped lead OCC to its first two national championships.
•    In 2009, as a member of Syracuse University’s Men’s Lacrosse team, he scored the game-winning goal in overtime to defeat Cornell in the national championship game.
•    Cody has had an outstanding professional career while also playing for the Haudenosaunee National Team in the World Championships.
 

Sid Smith, Men’s Lacrosse
•    Sid was an All-American and Captain on OCC’s first Men’s Lacrosse national championship team in 2006.
•    In 2009, he earned All-American honors while helping Syracuse University win a national championship.
•    He played lacrosse professionally - and competed with the Haudenosaunee National team.
 

Mike Wheeler, Women’s Basketball
•    Mike coached the OCC Women’s Basketball team from 2001 to 2020, compiling an outstanding record of 509 wins and 128 losses.
•    He led the Lazers to the national tournament five times, including an appearance in the national championship game in 2010.
•    Following his tenure at OCC, Mike coached the Liverpool High School Girls Varsity basketball team for 5 seasons. He will begin coaching the Cicero-North Syracuse Boys Varsity Basketball team in the upcoming season.
 

Chuck Wilbur, Men’s Lacrosse
•    Chuck led the Men’s Lacrosse team to 11 national titles, compiling an overall record of 266 wins and 15 (fifteen) losses.
•    The field OCC’s lacrosse teams play on is named in his honor.
•    He is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame.
•    Chuck now coaches the Cicero-North Syracuse High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse team.
 

The achievements of current student-athletes, teams, and supporters were also recognized for excellence both on and off the field. Honorees included individuals and groups who stood out in athletic performance, academic success, leadership, and service to the college and broader community. Below is a list of this year’s award winners:

Highest Team GPA - presented to the teams with the highest grade point average.

  • Men's - Baseball
  • Women's - Basketball

 

Scholar-Athlete - presented to the student-athletes with the highest grade point average.

  • Men's - Ryan Campbell, Baseball
  • Women's - Grace Plewak, Volleyball

 

Outstanding Athlete of the Year

  • Men's - Charlie Foster, Wrestling
  • Women's - Jada Crocker, Basketball

 

Rookie of the Year - presented to the top performing student-athletes in their first season.

  • Men's - Garang Garang, Basketball
  • Women's - Adalynn Olmstead, Soccer

 

Comeback Award - presented to a student-athlete who overcame an injury or made significant academic improvement.

  • Men's - Davin Bomberry, Lacrosse
  • Women's - Jasmine Martin, Soccer

 

Lazer All-Star - presented to a student-athlete who demonstrated outstanding leadership, sportsmanship, academic performance, and volunteerism in the team, school, and community.

  • Na'Deja Newkirk, Basketball

 

Volunteer of the Year - presented to those who are committed and dedicated to the Lazers athletic program.

  • 2026 Baseball team

 

OCC Salute - in recognition of those outside athletics who enable student-athletes to reach their full potential.
